Mysteries of the Moon
The world holds many unanswered questions and the world of Pretty Soldier Sailormoon is no exception. This section is here to provide you with the unanswerable questions posed by the fans. If you have a question that you have pondered over for a long time, something strange, something that makes you say "Huh?" then send it in. If I can't answer I'll post it.

001: When do Usagi & Mamoru begin calling each other Serenity & Endymion?
I know that they refer to each other by their royal names of their past life while they're in those forms. However, at the end of the manga and anime series, they are still referring to each other as "Usako" and "Mamo-chan." According to the last pages of act 52 of the manga, when Usagi and Mamoru get married, they are still referring to each other as "Usako" and "Mamo-chan." Earlier on, we are told that Usagi accends to the throne at age twenty-two. At this point do they just start referring to each other by Serenity or Endymion, or do they gradually work their way into using these names when their pet names have become so comfortable? I know it is such a small thing to give so much thought to, but I can't help but wondering.

002: In the anime, who guards the Time-Space Door when Pluto is not around?
In the manga, it is specified that Diana watches the Door. In the anime, we don't even meet Diana until after Super season when Pluto has left the Door to fight alongside Uranus and Neptune. Does this mean, Diana is watching or there is some other element at work here? I suppose we just have to wonder...

003: Why does it seem that villains only attack Japan?
This is a question that I see a lot. I think it is less clear in the anime, but in the manga it is revealed that the enemies have always been drawn to the power of Usagi's Silver Crystal. If she went on a trip to America or England, I think that the enemies might show up there instead. However, in the manga, the Shitennou did search the world for the Silver Crystal before they searched Japan. Also, in the anime, when Metallia began growing stronger, the sun spots appeared and all of the Earth was being effected. It also seems that the Snow Dancers from the SailormoonS movie did fly to other parts of the world when they attacked. Also in the SuperS movie, children all over the world were being abducted by the fairies.

004: Why don't the monsters attack while the Soldiers perform their long attacks?
There has been quite a lot of speculation on this question. Some people suggest that the creature is stunned by the attack. Others have thought it was possible that the actual attack is only a few seconds, but is played out for us to see. Some say that it perhaps a politeness thing to watch the attack, like when the girls give their speeches. On this question, I have very little opinion of my own. I think it's one of those things that I have just taken for granted, maybe due to the fact that I watch/read so many Magical Girl stories.

005: Tuxedo Mask uses ALOT of long stem, red roses. How does he pay his florist bill? Isn't his florist even the least bit suspicious? Can't he use other flowers instead, you know, cheaper ones, like daises?
I do think the red rose is special to Mamoru for a few reasons, most of them being answered in the SailormoonR movie. There is also the meaning of the rose that is important to the choice of flower he uses. Red roses signify love and tenderness, while the thorns it bears bring pain. I think it might be that to protect his dear ones, Usagi and Chibi Usa, he has the rose as a symbol of that love. The thorns represent the passion and danger he bears to those who would hurt his beloved people. As for the florist bill, well, if you want to be symbolic, I guess you have to be willing to pay the price. ^^;;

006: Why does Chibi Usa have such different hair/eye color than her parents?
This question is one of the biggest ones I receive. My answer to this question is this: Hair and eye color in anime and manga do not necessarily show who is related to one another. Remember that Usagi has Blond hair while her mother has blue and father has black. I have read up a lot on this phenomenon, and it seems that the "color" is only for the viewer of the anime or manga to identify specific characters or more important main characters. Traits are given to them as an identity, not because of their birth from one family or another.

I also like what Serenity Raye had to offer on this subject: "For this question, I shall do my english teacher proud and refer to archatypes. The colors white and red are both part of classical archatypes, red symbolizing both love, lust, and sin. This would be Mamoru, a man tainted by the past, and deeply in love with Usagi. Enter the white. This color symbolizes purity, joy and innocence. Now, put the two together, and what do you get? Pink." (note: Usagi's main colors are white and pink, Mamoru's colors are red and black)

007: If the Dark Kingdom had never attacked the Moon Kingdom, would there have ever been a Sailor Moon or Tuxedo Mask even though they never mention them existed in the past?
I find that to be an interesting question to ponder over. I don't think there would have been a Sailor Moon had there never been an attack on the kingdom. Princess Serenity always have people there to protect her, whether it was Prince Endymion, her mother, or her four sailor soldier guardians. Tuxedo Mask was a result of the formal outfit that he wore to the ball to meet Serenity. I don't believe there would have been a fighting Tuxedo Mask, but that outfit certainly did exist back in the past. However, after their dance, he returned to his princely armor and fought against the Dark Kingdom. That leads me to believe that he would not have fought as Tuxedo Mask in the past, but only in his armor.... Better protection that way.

008: How does Kino Makoto afford to live on her own?
It is plainly stated that Makoto's parents are dead as a result of a plane crash. How does she manage to afford to live on her own with the outrageous housing and living costs of Japan? There has been no mention of any relatives helping her out, nor has there been any information of a part-time job for her. Perhaps her family was rich or she received an inheritance? I guess we'll never know for sure.

009: How does Chibi Usa not outgrow her friends of the Twentith Century with her time hopping?
The question has arose as to how Chibi Usa can remain friend in the same grade with Momo-chan and company when she is show to be aging in her time hopping trips. Well, as it is, time travel is a very confusing thing. Chibi Usa could be gone for two minutes in the future or two years, but when she returns in up to her. We see a very small Chibi Usa who was in first grade leave the present time at the end of SailormoonR. When she returns in SailormoonS she is a little older, but not by much. To be able to join Momo-chan in school, she would have had to grown a year. She spends quite some time in our time after this point. She went through the entire school year (second grade according to the timeline setup) and then into third grade by the time the new school year came along at the very beginning of Sailormoon Sailor Stars. It is after this point that she returns to the future. The animation draws her in a much older look in SuperS, but she is in our time for three whole seasons without leaving. Its a possibility that she only aged a year from R to her appearance in S.

010: Why do the Sailor Soldiers say their attacks in English?
Well, the Japanese language is saturated with foreign words, including English words. I would have to chalk this one up to the creator's preference. I mean, most people have been known to use foreign words or phrases from time to time. How many places have you seen "konnichi wa" greetings you on a site? Or "hasta la vista, baby" in movies or speech. Even Bart Simpson uses some spanish phrases.

011: Whatever happened to Sailor Moon and Sailor V's goggles?
Have you ever sat and wondered why they stopped wearing the googles? They seemed to help mask the identities of their civilian selves. Sailor Moon even proved her fear of being discovered by her brother in episode five. Her anime outfit didn't come with goggles, but her manga self was another story. The first time she transformed, she was able to see Naru being attacked by a monster and threw the goggles off. After that point, she always seemed to throw the goggles off when she transformed, perhaps out of a fear or dislike at what the goggles showed. Sailor V, on the other hand, did have her goggles in the anime, but got rid of them when she became Sailor V. I wonder why, perhaps it was more asthetically pleasing for the show for them not to have the goggles all the time. I dunno what to think of that, actually.

012: Why doesn't Kakyuu become Sailor Kinmoku?
This was an interesting question posed to me. Why is her sailor name Sailor Kakyuu even though her home planet is Kinmoku. Shouldn't she theoretically become Sailor Kinmoku? However, Sailor Starfighter, Sailor Starmaker, and Sailor Starhealer also called Kinmoku their home planet and none of them are Sailor Kinmoku either. However, the sailor soldiers of Earth are named for the planets in our solar system (Jupiter, Mars, Neptune, etc), but they call Earth their home planet. Sailor Moon is the soldier of the Moon, but she fights on Earth. It could be that these sailor soldiers all live on Kinmoku, but like the sailor soldiers of our world, they are named for their respective planet.
