Sailor Mercury >> Split Personality

There is always some meaning in a name so why not the characters of Pretty Soldier Sailormoon? I have taken it upon myself to look deeper and find out what's in a name.

Translation: The kanji Naoko-sensei used for the last name has a different translation than some might think. The first kanji, "mizu" means "water". However, contrary to popular belief, the second kanji used in her name does NOT translate to "of the". It translates to "field". The third kanji, "A", translatates to mean "rank next, second", and the fourth kanji, "Mi" means "beauty". This is actually a common surname in Japan.

However, the name is a pun as it sounds when spoken like the phrase, "mizu no ami" which would translate to "Ami of Water". The kanji in her name that stands for "mizu" is also the first kanji in the word "suisei" which means "Water Star" which refers to the planet Mercury.
