Parallel Sailormoon >> Analysis

"July 1999. Early afternoon, in a certain dimension, on a certain planet, in a certain country, in a certain city..." there was Parallel Sailormoon, the short story included in the Materials Collection.

:: ages of the characters ::
For my first analysis, I will start with the ages of the characters since this causes much debate about the pre-exisiting characters in the story. You have to remember that this story is entitled "Parallel Sailormoon" which means that it does NOT fit into the regular story and challenges many of the "rules" that were set in place by the original timeline/storyline.

  • Fact 1 - In the original timeline of the Pretty Soldier Sailormoon storyline we know that at the end of the series the girls are all sixteen years old and the year would be 1997.

  • Fact 2 - We are told at the beginning and ending of the Parallel Sailormoon story that the year is 1999 (which is the year that the Materials Collection was released and incidentally, the Chinese year of the rabbit).

  • Fact 3 - The ages of the children in Parallel Sailormoon are implied by their school year. They are all in grade 3 of Elementary School which suggests they are somewhere between seven to nine years old depending on their birthdays.

  • Fact 4 - Minako, Makoto, Rei, and Ami all state that they are married and have one child. Their ages are all stated as "secret." Usagi states that she is married and a parent of two. Her age is also stated as "secret."

  • Fact 5 - This is a statement made by Makoto: "Being married for seven years (living together for two), it was my dream. Finally, finally having my shop, being helped by my kind husband, I'm so happy!"

The above information confirms the following facts:

  • Fact 1 - The confirmed ages of the children in Parallel Sailormoon show that Usagi, Minako, Makoto, Rei, and Ami cannot be the same age as in the original timeline of Pretty Soldier Sailormoon. To suggest that they were eighteen in Parallel Sailormoon would imply that they had their children at age nine. That isn't likely.

Also, Makoto's statement about her husband adds to the confirmation that the original characters are not eighteen years old. If Makoto was eighteen in Parallel Sailormoon, she would have had to have been eleven years old when she married her husband. That does not make sense considering that when Makoto was introduced in the original Pretty Soldier Sailormoon, she was fourteen and unmarried.

  • Fact 2 - The children are not here from the future. None of them, including the Tsukino children. It is plainly stated in the narration boxes that Minako, Makoto, Rei, and Ami are each a parent of one. Usagi is a parent of two. Confirmation of this also comes from the proof of the women's ages. If they were the ages from the original story, this would make sense, but this story is a parallel world and the women are obviously old enough to have children. There is no proof or hint indicating the children are from the future.

:: the tsukino family ::
For my second analysis, the daughters of the Tsukino family will get looked at. The confusion of these character is mainly due to the fact that most people are trying to fit this story into the original timeline/storyline. You have to remember that this story is entitled "Parallel Sailormoon" which means that it does NOT fit into the regular story and challenges many of the "rules" that were set in place by the original timeline/storyline.

  • Fact 1 - Tsukino, Chibi Usa is introduced as "Tsukino Chibi-Usa - Grade 9 (Litterally: Middle School Third Year). Eldest daughter of the Tsukino family." << click here >>

  • Fact 2 - Tsukino, Kousagi is introduced as "Tsukino Kousagi - Grade 3 (Litterally: Elementary Third Year). Second daughter of the Tsukino family." << click here >>

  • Fact 3 - Usagi's introduction tells us that her children are from the same timeline as herself. The translation reads "Tsukino Usagi - Parent of two. Age: Secret". Both girls were born of Usagi. She is clearly stated as being a parent of two.

  • Fact 4 - This is a statement from Chibi Usa to her mother: "Payment demand for your eldest daughter's cram school fee, payment demand for your second daughter's school lunch program, and today you missed the PTA meeting. Did you lock up the house when you left?"
The above information confirms the following facts:

  • Fact 1 - Usagi has given birth two two children in Parallel Sailormoon. The story plainly states that she has had two children, not one child and another one visiting from the future who hasn't been born yet. If that were true it would have written something to the effect of "current parent of one," which it doesn't.

  • Fact 2 - The statement made by Chibi Usa "your eldest daughter's cram school fee" would be referring to Chibi Usa. She is on her way to cram school courses with Hotaru in the next scene. Being in nineth grade, like lots of Japanese students, she would be attending cram school to study for her High School entrance exams.

  • Fact 3 - The statement made by Chibi Usa "payment demand for your second daughter's school lunch program" would be referring to Kousagi. Kousagi was stated in the story as "the human digestive organ" and "picking up things and eating them on the way." She also attends a cooking class. Kousagi is painted as a very food oriented character.

  • Fact 3 - Chibi Usa and/or Kousagi are NOT here from the future. It is plainly stated that Chibi Usa is the eldest daughter to the Tsukino family, that Kousagi is the second daughter to the family, and Usagi is a parent of two. Chibi Usa is in grade nine which would also suggest that the original soldiers would have to be older (covered in the first analysis above).
