Makoto's appearance came not a moment too soon. That rainy morning Usagi was distracted by thoughts of Tuxedo Mask and did not notice the speeding car coming her way until it would have been too late. Fortunately, the tall girl came to her rescue. Later, at school, Usagi discovered that the girl was a new transfer student. She had a natural wave in her hair, rose earrings, and a delicious lunch. Makoto was immediately befriended by Usagi. The girls went to the game center where they encountered Furuhata, Motoki (onii-san). When Usagi heard Motoki's nickname at school was Furu-chan she gave Makoto the nickname Mako-chan. Makoto was reminded of an older boy she loved by Motoki. Her heart was broken by that boy and staying at her old school became hard for her. However, she explained that she transferred schools because she felt the wind brought her there. Instead of love, a much more important thing was waiting for her.

Makoto admit she has lots of dreams. Her parents died early on in an airplane crash and she's been living alone for a long time. She has said she wants to marry early and make a happy home. After that, she wants to open a small flower and cake shop. Secretly, she wants to become a pretty woman like Michiru and strong like Haruka. Her biggest dream is to become the strongest sailor soldier to protect the ones she loves.
