Michiru first appears as a famous violinist who is the 'sweetheart' of the famous racer, Ten'oh, Haruka. She has a helicopter named the Kaioh Maru and goes to the Infinite Academy with Haruka. The Infinite Academy is for talent, Olympic athletes, and musicians and is called the genius school. She lives in the Kaioh zone in the Kaioh Condominium Tower where the rent is one million yen a month, though because she has a patron the price is not a concern. Her first appearance in battle is alongside Sailor Uranus. The mission of the soldiers of the outer planets is to gather the three Talismans. Neptune holds the Deep Aqua Mirror talisman which can see past lives.

Since ancient times, the three soldiers of the outer solar system fought as soldiers from deep space against invaders. They defended the Silver Millennium from a distance. The princess and the Silver Millennium have been resurrected again in this world and they too have been reborn. Their awakening was too late as the enemy was already invading. They finally formally introduce themselves to Sailor Moon and the others, but tell them not to interfer as the Death Busters are their juristiction. They also reveal that their mission is to bury the god of ruin. Sailor Saturn is a guide to death and appears at the moment of destruction. When the three soldiers of the outer solar system bring the talismans together, that is the time of Saturn's awakening as they will invoke the key that will call her. They do not wish them to be brought together for that will be the ruin of the world.

After Saturn led Pharaoh 90 back through the Door of Space-Time to its own Galaxy, Pluto used her power to seal the door, but as it turned out, Hotaru was reincarnated as a baby. Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna took Hotaru and raised her together. It was when the Dead Moon Circus appeared that Hotaru began to age rapidly. The time for her reawakening was drawing closer. Finally, the spirit of Saturn came to her and she was 'reborn' as a Sailor Soldier. It was she who gave the soldiers of the outer planets the power to transform again.

She fights alongside Sailor Uranus (and later Sailor Pluto) and their mission is to protect the Silver Millennium from deep space invaders.
