Bye Bye, Mamoru Usagi’s Torment Sailor Moon T: Episode Two by Aiko Chijou email: aikochan3@yahoo.com Rated PG “Damn you!” screamed Makoto. “How dare you?” she yelled, tightening her arms around Usagi. “How could you do this, Mamoru?” Mamoru didn’t speak. He couldn’t, he could barely move his lips at all. He strived to find the strength. He opened his mouth and said clearly, “Makoto, I didn’t do anything!” Makoto clenched Usagi to her bosom. “You don’t call this nothing!” she screamed. She held Usagi even tighter. Usagi wept. Not just the usual crying and whining, but real sorrow filled her tears. “You don’t call this… nothing.” Mamoru’s eyes widened in fear. You don’t mess with Kino Makoto and get off easy. In fact, messing with her friends is an even more of a death wish. “I swear, Makoto! It wasn’t me!” Makoto had had enough. She whispered something to Usagi and let her go, slowly, nodding. She then looked up and came flying towards Mamoru. She punched him square in the face. “Now get lost, you creep!” Usagi’s eyes filled with tears. She collapsed. “Usagi!” yelled Makoto, running to her. Mamoru cried in sorrow, not in pain, and stumbled off, so that he wouldn’t cause Usagi any more pain. “It’s all right, Usagi. You are always welcome at my house,” Makoto whispered, holding Usagi close and stroking her hair. “Are you okay?” she said softly. Usagi put a hand to her stomach. “I’m fine for right now.” Makoto eyed her hand and began to tear. “Come on, let’s go home.” “Poor Usagi,” said Minako softly to Rei. “Kicked out of her house by her own parents… I tell you, it’s unbelievable! That ratfink, Mamoru! I can’t stand him, now! To think that he was her boyfriend! Humph!” “I still find it hard to believe, but it has to be true, you know,” said Rei, whispering to Minako. “At least she has a friend like Makoto to stick by her. She’s letting Usagi stay at her house and she brings her her homework everyday.” “Wow, what a great friend,” said Minako in awe of Makoto’s kindness. “I still can’t believe it! Usagi--!” “Shhh!” Rei hissed, placing her finger over Minako’s lips. “I don’t want to hear it ever again!” Usagi vomited. She groaned weakly, hardly able to make any noise at all. Makoto held back Usagi’s hair in sorrow. “I can’t believe that guy… he did this to our sweet Usagi… that, oh that MAMORU!” Usagi lifted her head. “Makoto… It’s okay… this is only for a little while. It’s not Mamoru’s fault. Besides… I would rather stay with you than be at home where Mom will hound me all the time about being-UAGH!” she vomited again. She wept over the toilet, in despair. “I can’t believe this is happening to me.” Mamoru walked home slowly. He passed Makoto’s house. He couldn’t resist the urge in his heart to see Usagi. He ran for the house, dropping everything. He knocked on the door rapidly, his heart thumping violently, which felt as if it was about to burst from his chest. Usagi came walking slowly to the door. She opened it. Mamoru’s heart lifted high. It was so good to see Usagi again. Usagi was shocked. She hid her face, then, deciding that was stupid, she tried to hide her stomach. She had gotten a little round at her abdomen. To no avail. He stared at her stomach. She shlumped her arms to her sides. It was an uncomfortable moment. He lifted his eyes to her beautiful face. She was blushing, and looked very upset, with tears in her eyes. Makoto and Ami came to the door. “Mamoru!” yelled Makoto. “Get out of here, you bastard!” She promptly slammed the door in his face. “Usagi, did he say anything to you?” Makoto asked ominously. “N-no…” said Usagi, still blushing. “No, he didn’t.” “Okay, good,” Makoto said, hugging the crying Usagi. “Usagi. It’s not a crime to be…” Usagi cried more violently. Makoto and Ami led her back into the den where they were doing homework. They patted her on the back and comforted her. She eventually stopped crying, and sat doing homework in silence. “Thank you, both of you,” she said softly. “Usagi…” said Ami softly. Usagi did her homework like a ghost, and, astonishingly, finished before both of the other girls and went upstairs to Makoto’s room. There, she cried so hard that she blacked out. She lay there, in silent repose, but screaming inside. “I’m worried about her,” Ami said quietly to Makoto. Makoto could do nothing less than love Usagi for being so brave and hate Mamoru for being so cruel. Usagi awoke. She went to the mirror. She hadn’t looked in one for a long time. She took off her nightshirt. She stared at her naked abdomen. It was round. Horribly round. She felt fat. She ran her fingers through her hair and looked at her eyes. They were still blue, and still pretty. “At least I still have my face,” said Usagi. “I’m glad you don’t get ugly when you get…” she paused and put her nightshirt back on. She slowly plodded back to her bed and said softly… “Pregnant.” “Usagi, time to wake up,” said Makoto. “Time to go, Usagi.” Usagi rubbed her eyes innocently. “Go where?” “The Doctor, Usagi. We’re going to the doctor today,” smiled Makoto. “Oh! Oh, yes. Okay. I will be right down, Makoto.” Usagi said happily. She hopped out of bed and went to her dresser drawer. She pulled out the biggest button-up shirt she could find and put it on. She then put on a pair of tight pants and a huge jacket. She slipped on a hat and trotted down the stairs into the den. Makoto smiled at her and came and gave her a huge hug. “That looks great, Usagi,” she said, warmly. Usagi smiled. “Come and have some breakfast and we’ll go to the doctor right away.” “Only a little more time for her, and then…” said Makoto gently. Everyone was gathered around a glass window, weeping heavily. Makoto was one of the ones crying hardest. Minako held her hands to the glass, biting her lip until it bled, crying violently in short gasps. Rei wrung her hands over and over again, unable to stop. She also tugged at her hair, crying. She was probably the most distraught. “Princess,” said Michiru, sobbing. “Don’t leave me too… Haruka, Kazuo… and not you too.” Setsuna and Hotaru couldn’t even look. They stood in the back, Setsuna stroking Hotaru quietly, trying to calm her through her own tears. Haruka’s ghost seemed to be next to Usagi, fondling her gently. Ami tried to hide her tears, but she, too, was amongst the ones who were most distraught. BAM! Suddenly, Mamoru burst through the hospital door. “Usako!” he cried, weeping violently, barely able to breathe. He ignored all the restraints and fought his way to Usagi’s side, along with Haruka’s mysterious ghost. “Usako…! Don’t leave me, Usako… I love you, I always have, I always will. I would never do this to you, Usako!” He screamed with tears in his eyes. There was a long silence. Mamoru lowered his head in defeat on Usagi’s bed. Then came a soft, barely audible, and gentle voice. “Mamo-chan,” said Usagi gently. “I know. I will always love you, my Mamo-chan… Bye bye, Mamo-chan…” “Usako!” screamed Mamoru, with tears in his eyes. “Usako…” Suddenly, Usagi inhaled deeply and exhaled more heavily. Her beautiful eyes went blank and slowly closed. “No…” Mamoru said silently. “No, Usagi…” He placed his hand on her face and slowly kissed her gently. “Goodbye, Usagi.” Epilogue The Funeral Ikuko and Kenji wept hard at the loss of their daughter. Of course, all her kind friends who had stuck by her were invited to her funeral. They all stood around her grave. It was raining buckets, and some were under umbrellas. Others relied on the canopy that the funeral home had set up. Each of them placed a red rose on her grave. Mamoru came too, and he placed a bouquet of red roses on her grave. They mourned quietly, their tears had almost run out. The eulogy was beautiful. Everyone contributed and Mamoru presented it. “Usagi, Usagi-chan, Usako, Usa… sister… all of these were names that we called our dear Tsukino Usagi. We always loved her and her innocence. We all appreciated her in our own right, but none so much as Kino Makoto, who sheltered her in her last few months. Unfortunately, she died giving birth to her first child, a stillborn.” He began to cry. “And though, we… all did our best to save her, we simply could not. We will,” He could barely speak through his tears, “We will bury her next to her good friend, Haruka, who died a few months before her. Her stillborn child will also be buried alongside her. So now we say… Farewell, Usako.” They all wept harder, as they lowered Usagi into her grave. Then it was time to leave. Michiru led the funeral procession with her violin playing the requiem. As they left, three ghosts appeared and watched them walk away, all in black. There they stood. Usagi, Haruka, and the stillborn child’s ghosts. Usagi held the baby, weeping softly, with tears streaming down her face. Haruka stood next to her with her hand on Usagi’s shoulder. There they remained until the rain stopped and they no longer became visible.
