Sailor Moon: The Three Waves of Destruction Wave One Chapter One: The Seeds of Chaos Note: This story takes place after the Lost Episodes shown on Cartoon Network. Sailor Moon, Sailor Soldiers, and anything pertaining to them are the property of their respective creators. Also, this takes place directly after Wiseman’s demise. In this case, Rini has not yet gone back home. "So, the big question is, what do we do now?" Darien asked the gathered group. It had been a whole week since Wiseman/Doom Phantom's destruction. The Scouts had reported having strange dreams about a scientist and seeing two new Scouts. Raye, Mina, Lita, Amy, Artemis, Luna, Darien, Rini, Serena, and the Four Sisters were all gathered together at Raye's temple. "Well," Luna began, "our first priority should be to find out who these new Scouts are. I don't recall any other Scouts except you five," "Then again," Artemis piped in, "we haven't fully recovered all of our memories since we were placed in the stasis capsules." "So, basically we don't have a clue to what we should do next except wait for those two Scouts to show up," Raye said glumly. "This is boring!" "Wiseman has failed," the tall, slender, dark man said to his master, an even darker man who was gigantic as well as strong. "Indeed," the dark master grumbled, his baritone voice echoing through the shadowy halls of the castle. "I have planted the seeds of Chaos into another being. A human scientist." "A human?" the tall man said incredulously, "This should be a sight," Both the master and his tall apprentice laughed. Darien and Serena had gone off together after the meeting at Raye's and went to the lake to go for a boat ride. Now they sat in a boat out on the lake watching the sunset. Darien held Serena close. No words were exchanged between the two; none were necessary, they knew what was in each other's hearts. High above them, a pigeon flew by, its beady eyes watching the pair. It didn't feel any need to have a mate. It didn't feel any need to be responsible or protective. It knew only its instincts and the wind flying beneath its wings. Another pair of eyes watched the young couple with more than a passing interest. At the edge of the lake was a copse of trees. Hiding within that copse of trees a slender form watched the two intently. The figure's calculating mind quickly created several plans, schemes, and plots, adjusting old ones, fabricating new ones. The figure's mind raced as it went through several scenarios, creating a plan for each possible conclusion to those scenarios. Soon, the slender figure had devised the perfect plan to "announce" itself to the Sailor Scouts. Dr. Tomoe, a man of medium height and build, worked endlessly at his experiments. He was trying to create a fusion generator that could make space shuttles move ten times faster than the speed of light. His colleagues at the universities mocked his unconventional ideas, but he knew that he could do it. Then he would show them all. Shifting his circular-framed glasses, Dr. Tomoe scribbled several notes onto a nearby notepad. "Experiment 128…failed," he mumbled to himself quietly. "Just like the others." Tomoe heard a creak behind him. Someone was entering his private laboratory. Tomoe turned and looked straight into the worried eyes of a small teenage girl. The girl was thin, almost stick-like, and ill looking. Tomoe relaxed at the sight of his only daughter. "Father," the girl softly, "it's late. You should rest." Concern was plainly etched on her ghostly pale face. "I'll be closing up soon, Hotaru. Go to sleep," Tomoe said to her, his voice also soft, the voice of a caring father. Hotaru Tomoe left the room quietly, stopping only to say goodnight. She closed the door behind her. Once the door closed, Tomoe went back to work. "You see, my dear apprentice," the dark master said to the tall, slender man, "greed is the driving force in many humans. One must simply discover how to utilize that single, nondescript, emotion. It may seem to be a trivial emotion, but, if properly used, it can cause untold destruction." The apprentice listened to his master's wise words with avid admiration. The master and apprentice both looked into the floating ball in front of them. The ball held the picture of Dr. Tomoe hurrying about his laboratory, trying desperately to come up with a successful prototype for his fusion generator. "Are you sure that this Dr. Tomoe will bring about your 'untold destruction'?" the apprentice asked in calm, even tones. "Do not question my wisdom, apprentice," the master boomed. "I have seen the rise and fall of countless millennia. I am older than the energies of creation. I am the manifestation of power. Do not question me again, apprentice!" The apprentice merely took the berating without flinching. He knew that to show any kind of weakness in front of his master was to die. Darien pulled his car over by Serena's house. As she stepped out of the car, Darien caught sight of Serena's father, who was wearing his customary scowl. Darien felt Mr. Tsukino's eyes bore into him. Serena noted the look that her father was giving her boyfriend and nearly laughed. She turned back toward Darien and kissed him, drawing an even bigger scowl from her father. Serena skipped lightly back to her house as Darien drove away. "Hi dad!" Serena Tsukino said to her father, throwing a hug around him before skipping into the house. Sammy was standing right in front of her with a squirt gun cocked and loaded. "WAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!" Serena's wail could be heard ten blocks away, which was where Darien was driving. He couldn't help but smile as he heard his girlfriend scream her heart out. She made a bad opera singer look good. Darien couldn't help but laugh. "Sammy!" Serena's mother chided confiscating Sammy's weapon, and tossing a towel to her soaked daughter. "Ha! Gotcha!" Sammy said snidely, sticking his tongue out at his sister. Serena returned by sticking out her own tongue. "My tongue is longer!" Sammy squealed. "Yeah right! Mine is way longer!" "No, mine is!" "Mine!" "Mine!" "That's enough, both of you!" Mrs. Tsukino said to them both. "Sammy, to your room. Serena, go study." Her words came out with a tone of finality. Both siblings went upstairs to their respective rooms. Serena plopped herself down onto the bed, a dreamy expression on her face. "Stop thinking about Darien, and get going on your homework!" Mrs. Tsukino's voice rang out from downstairs. Serena sat up, mouth open in astonishment, "How does she do that?" The apprentice was back in his own personal chambers, scribbling in his journal. He wanted to record everything that he learned. He didn't want his master's infinite wisdom to fade away with the passing of time. This peculiar planet called Earth was, to say the least, the most intriguing world he had ever visited. He had never imagined so much cultural diversity on a single planet in his entire life. Although it wasn't as technologically advanced as some worlds he and his master had seen, the species on Earth had one very strange ability that was integrated within their very genes: the ability to adapt to any environment. The apprentice considered humans as a rare commodity: they could adapt to any environment, they reproduced at amazing speeds, could use any weapon, had the ability to create and destroy, and, finally, a rare few of the species possessed a small bit of psionic energy. And some of the females of the species were quite attractive. The apprentice smiled at that roguish thought. The slender figure that had been spying on Darien and Serena was now huddled inside a warehouse, waiting for an opportunity in which to "introduce" itself to the Sailor Scouts. It possessed only one weapon: its patience. It valued patience. It would wait quietly, seeking that one perfect opportunity. Soon, it thought, very soon… Sailor Moon: The Three Waves of Destruction Wave One Chapter Two: Shadow Hunters Note: The Shadow Hunters and the Guardian are my property and my creations. The slender figure eased its way into Serena's room, entering through the window. It used a slender dirk to undo the lock on the window, lifted the window, and slipped inside. The slender figure silently moved over to Serena's bed, where both Serena and Rini were sleeping. Luna was lying on the floor, ensuing that she wouldn't be smothered by the combined body mass of Serena and Rini. The slender figure eased its dirk to Serena's neck, the cold touch of the steel dirk awakening the young girl instantly. Serena struggled for a split second, but stopped as the slender figure applied more pressure to the dirk, drawing a single drop of blood. "Do not move, Sailor Moon," the slender figure hissed softly into Serena's ear. Serena froze in place. Luna and Rini yawned lazily, slowly coming to wakefulness. "Do not move," the slender figure reiterated more sternly. Luna and Rini were fully awake at the sound of the quiet voice. "Who are you?" Serena whispered beads of sweat forming on her forehead. Luna and Rini, seeing that Serena was in trouble, were about to jump to her rescue, but the slender figure put even more pressure on this dirk. Serena squirmed, a clear sign to the cat and the pink-haired girl that they should back down. "My name is not important," the figure hissed. "I am known only as the Guardian." Luna gasped. "Luna?" Rini said softly. "Guardian? You're alive?" the black cat said quietly, not believing her eyes. "Luna? Is that you?" the figure known as the Guardian said in response. "A Shadow Hunter? Here? In this time period?" the master roared. "A Shadow Hunter," the apprentice whispered under his breath. He had heard of the assassin/adventurer group. They were efficient killers, marksmen, expert spies, masters in stealth, magic, long-range and short-range combat, versatile soldiers, and were very dangerous. "I thought they all died one thousand years ago," the apprentice whispered. "I thought that as well," the master rumbled, "they are very skilled to have survived a war such as that." "Indeed," "Let us sit back and see what develops from this unforeseen complication," the master said. The Guardian eased his dirk from Serena's neck, slipping the thin blade back into its sheath at his hip. Luna looked at her long-lost friend with teary eyes. The Guardian was only four foot eight inches tall and only ninety-eight pounds. He appeared weak and frail, but, in reality, was a trained warrior. He was one of the rare Shadow Hunters. The dirk was the Hunters' symbol. "Luna, who is this guy?" Rini asked. "A friend," the cat replied. "A friend?" Serena cried, "He tried to skewer my throat!" "Why did you attack Serena?" Luna asked the Guardian. "I was assigned to deal with Sailor Moon by my employers," the Guardian said casually. "They never told me just how to deal with her. I assumed that they wanted her eliminated." "How could you become an assassin, Guardian?" Luna snapped, "I thought you had given up that career." "Once a Shadow Hunter, always a Shadow Hunter," came the Guardian's easy reply. "Hold it!" Serena said, arms flailing. "What's a Shadow Hunter? And who is this Guardian? And how do you know this guy, Luna?" "It's a long story, Serena," Luna whispered, "but I guess you should know. Call up an emergency Sailor Scout meeting. The others should know about this." Raye, Serena, Darien, Mina, Lita, Amy, Luna, Rini, and Artemis were gathered at the front steps of Raye's temple in a matter of minutes. The Guardian stayed within the shadows of a large tree in the courtyard. He watched Luna explain what had happened only a few minutes ago: his attack on Serena, his recognition of Luna. Once the story had been told, the Guardian stepped out of the shadows, silent as death. He was standing at the base of the front steps, his steely gaze eyeing each of the gathered friends. "Nice to see you again, Guardian," Artemis piped in. "Hello, Artemis," the Guardian said. "I guess you should explain everything," Luna prompted him. "Well, the Shadow Hunters are a semi-secret organization of assassin/adventurers. They are hired by both good and evil. We prefer to remain neutral in any conflict. I am the only one to defy that rule. I befriended Artemis, Luna, and Queen Serenity one thousand years ago during the Silver Millennium. I was hired by the good Queen to act as a defender and a soldier in the Queen's army. When the war against the Negaverse erupted, I was a frontline commander. I was nearly killed by Queen Beryl herself, but I managed to stay alive through her attacks. I was knocked into a coma by a spell Beryl threw at me. When I awoke, the entire Moon Kingdom had been vaporized. I teleported back to the Shadow Hunter's base and discovered that Queen Serenity had reincarnated the 'children of the Moon' and sent them into the future. The reason I wasn't reincarnated was that I wasn't a civilian of the Moon Kingdom. "The reason I attacked Sailor Moon was because some mysterious guy sent a message to the Shadow Hunters, requesting our services to 'deal with Sailor Moon'. I assumed he wanted you dead, Miss Moon." "But, how did you know I was Sailor Moon?" Serena asked. "The Shadow Hunters know all," Guardian said cryptically. He continued, "Anyway, I came to Earth to kill you. But, out of respect to the deceased Queen Serenity, who was a dear friend to me, I will not kill the daughter of the good Queen, nor will I kill any of her Court." The sigh of relief that came from all of the gathered friends was quite audible. "So, there is yet another mysterious party who has a stake in the Sailor Scouts." The apprentice said, looking into the floating energy ball that held the image of the Guardian talking to the Scouts. "Things are going to get very complicated very fast." "Ah," the master rumbled, "but that is the fun of all of this; the challenges of intrigue." The apprentice nodded his agreement. He did so enjoy challenges. Sailor Moon: The Three Waves of Destruction Wave One Chapter Three: Half-God, Half-Hero Dr. Tomoe was still busy at work when Hotaru left for school. She was a new student to Crossroads Junior High. She hated being a new kid. It always made her uncomfortable to be around people she didn't know. And her strange 'talents' often made people shun her. Hotaru grabbed her bookbag, shook her head to loosen her jet-black hair, and started walking down to the school. "Serena, detention," Miss Haruna said simply when Serena arrived at the school ten minutes late. Serena's shoulders sagged, and she hobbled to her seat. That's when she noticed that short, skinny, pale faced girl. "Hi!" Serena said to the girl cheerfully, "You new around here?" "Yes," the girl said quietly. "I'm Serena," Serena stuck out her hand in greeting. "I'm Hotaru," the pale girl returned shaking Serena's offered hand. "Pleased to meet you Hotaru!" Serena chirped. The last bell rang. The students exited the school in the traditional fashion: a chaotic mob. Serena was running as fast as she can, wanting to get home in time to watch a new Sailor V episode. She tripped over her own feet and stumbled head over heels and crashed onto the pavement. "WAAAA!!!!" came the predicted response. "Serena, you're hurt," Hotaru said, crouching beside the wailing Serena. Hotaru closed her eyes, gently placed her hands over Serena's leg where it the skin had been peeled off when she hit the ground. The wound was bleeding slightly, but Hotaru's hands started to glow and so did the wound. In a matter of seconds, the torn skin had sealed up, and when Serena, who had stopped crying when Hotaru's hands started glowing, wiped the blood away, she gasped. With the exception of the smeared blood, there was absolutely no trace that Serena had ever been injured. "Whoa, cool trick!" Serena said, wide-eyed. Hotaru sat down beside Serena, gasping for breath. The healing technique had taken its toll on the frail Hotaru. "That 'trick' often makes others scared of me." Hotaru whispered. "Why should anyone be scared of that?" Serena couldn't help but ask. "You can heal people. That's an awesome trick!" Hotaru looked up into Serena's big blue eyes and smiled. No one had ever said anything that nice to her in her life. Dr. Tomoe worked quickly. He didn't have much time. His deadline was coming. The company that had invested in his experiments demanded that the fusion generator be completed by the end of the week. Already Tomoe had a working prototype. But this one had one flaw. It couldn't run for any length of time. He tried and tried, but couldn't get the generator to stay active for more than thirty seconds. That just wasn't good enough. And he was running out of time. The Guardian had spent the day sitting patiently within the boughs of the tree in front of Raye's temple. A Scout meeting had been set right after school. Raye, Mina, Rini, Artemis, and Luna were already here. He didn't make his presence known. He figured that he had best wait for the rest of the Scouts to get here before making a move. He continued to sit quietly. Serena, Amy, and Lita all arrived at the same time; Darien came by a few minutes later. I guess I better get moving, Guardian thought. He slipped out of the tree, landing on the cobbled path without a sound. He fell in step with Darien, remaining a few feet behind him. Even though it was broad daylight, no one could see him as he slipped into the shadows. Finally the Guardian stepped out into the light. The first time he made his presence known was when he attacked Serena. But it was too dark for humans to see his striking features. Luna was able to see recognize him because cat eyes are more adaptable to darkness than human eyes. And when he met the other Scouts that same night at the temple, they couldn't see his features either since it was dark as well. He barely reached five feet, had a wild mane of jet-black hair, a cleft chin, and a slender, tight-muscled body. His most striking features, however, were his eyes. His right eye was a shining, bright gold. His left eye was shimmering, luminescent silver. Mina and Lita both caught their breath. He's cute, they both thought, Those eyes… Guardian ran a slim hand through his black hair, pushing it back. "So, Luna, why did you call me back here? I thought I explained everything last night," he said gruffly. "I want to know who your employer is," Luna said sternly, not appreciating his tone of voice. "That is none of your concern," Guardian replied, "It is the concern of the Shadow Hunter Council," "Always the loyal soldier," Artemis mumbled under his breath. Guardian glared at the white cat. "Better a soldier than a fool," "Hey!" Artemis said in defense. Mina couldn't help but snicker. "What? You're siding with him too?" the white cat snapped at Mina. "Look, just tell us who hired you…" Luna started. Guardian cut her off with a wave of his hand. "I am under a Blood Oath not to reveal that information," Guardian replied. "What's a Blood Oath?" Darien asked. "A Blood Oath is an oath that a Shadow Hunter makes before the Shadow Hunter Council that he will not, under any circumstances, reveal who hired him or her, or who gave the location of a certain target. To break the Blood Oath is to have the Super Elite Hunters track down and eliminate the offending Shadow Hunter. The Super Elite is a special Shadow Hunter task force assigned to only the most dangerous missions, as well as the elimination of false or offending Shadow Hunters." Guardian said, eyeing Darien with his strange gold-and-silver eyes, daring him to ask any more questions about the Shadow Hunters. Guardian's glare put Darien off balance. It had been an honest question, but the Guardian obviously wasn't in the mood to talk about the Shadow Hunters. "Besides," Guardian continued, "I never met my employer. The Council told me to seek out and eliminate Sailor Moon. You don't ask questions about your assignments in the Shadow Hunters. I accepted the assignment and went out to do it. No questions asked." "Pretty strict," Rini remarked. Guardian nodded. "So, basically, where no where near to solving this mystery than we were a few minutes ago," Luna said, "And there is still the matter of the two mysterious Sailor Scouts seen after the Wiseman's destruction." "Two new Scouts?" Guardian asked, one eyebrow arched in a perplexed expression. "The Council said something about there being Five Inner, Four Outer…" "Inner and Outer?" Artemis asked. "The Outer Scouts?" Luna sounded shocked. She slapped her forehead, as if she was berating herself. "I should have known! The Outer Scouts are still alive! How could I have been so stupid!" Artemis decided to make one big mistake at that particular moment. He said, "It's not that hard for you to be stupid," Luna glared at him and clawed his face, knocking him to the ground. The others laughed at Artemis's expense. Guardian looked on, stone-faced. The apprentice, the ever-loyal servant, looked on into the floating ball in front of him. He studied the image within the ball. It was the Guardian. He wanted to find out more about this particular Shadow Hunter. He broke the one rule that set the Hunters apart from other assassins- he made friends with those who were not Hunters. He studied the Hunter's sharp, striking features. He also studied the young man's stance- the stance of a trained warrior. He knew that he had been alive for over one thousand years, he had lived to see the Silver Millennium, after all, and still possessed the appearance and vigor of a young man just entering adulthood. "Half-god, half-hero," the apprentice muttered. A young man who is really one thousand years old is definitely not fully human, and an assassin is definitely not all-hero. "Half-god, half hero," the apprentice said again, smiling evilly. Sailor Moon: The Three Waves of Destruction Wave One Chapter Four: The First Battle in a Long War Dr. Tomoe ran to get the phone, tripping a bit as he ambled along. When he got to the living room, where the phone was located, he saw the frail form of his daughter, talking into the phone. Hotaru turned to face him, extending her hand to him, offering the phone that was in her small hand. He took the phone and brought it to his ear. "Hello?" he said into the phone, rather shakily. "Professor Tomoe? This is Miran, of Miran Industies," a suave voice said. "We are expecting you to bring the prototype you promised by tomorrow evening. We are investing a large sum into this prototype of your, Professor, we expect results," The phone line on the other end made the telltale 'click' of hanging up. Dr. Tomoe did the same. Hotaru looked at him with questioning eyes. "I have to go and finish my experiments," he said to her flatly, already starting off to his laboratory. "You made the call?" the master asked his apprentice. "Yes," came his reply. He was no longer using his suave voice, and had reverted back to using his natural voice- a mysterious and evil voice. "Good. Tomoe's generator is perfect for our plans." the master rumbled, "According to all of my research, a large amount of fusion energy, combined with Negative force, can propel a being into hyperspace, where my ultimate creation, Mistress Nine, is locked away," "Do we really need Mistress Nine's…talents?" the apprentice asked his all-knowing master. "Yes. To get to the Holy Grail, we need Mistress Nine and her minions. I prepared her well for the mission, do not doubt that. Soon, very soon, all our work and toil will bear fruit." "But what if Tomoe's generator fails?" the apprentice prompted. "It matters not if it cannot achieve light speed, as Tomoe has indicated. As long as it can generate a large amount of fusion energy, I can augment the energy with Negative force. The two differing energies will cause an explosion that will create a rift in space; a rift that leads directly into hyperspace. "And to Mistress Nine," the apprentice grumbled, not at all pleased with the idea of unleashing a demon like Mistress Nine upon the Universe. Hotaru went down the stairs into the basement, her father's makeshift laboratory. He father was busily scribbling notes into a notebook. He was leaning over a small black box. The square box was no bigger than twelve inches high, and was only a foot long on all four of its sides. "Father?" she asked softly. She felt small beads of sweat form on her forehead. It was humid in the laboratory. "Hotaru," Tomoe said, not looking at his daughter, "How many times do I have to tell you? Please stay out of the basement! There are too many things down here that are dangerous if you do not know how to handle them! Please, leave so I can go and finish my work," Hotaru was shocked that her father had spoken to her so harshly. He never did that before. Hotaru's head sagged to her chest, and she said, "I'm going to the library. I'll be back before dinner," Then she turned and she left the house, slamming the front door behind her. "Send down a monster, apprentice. The master ordered. The apprentice fell back on his heels, shocked. The master never sends down a monster, or even gets directly involved in a conflict, unless he has a good reason or something to gain from the intrusion. Seeing his apprentice hesitate, the master elaborated, "I wish to study what kind of powers the Sailor Scouts have achieved since Wiseman's destruction. I also want to see if the appearance of a monster will force the two mysterious Sailor Scouts out into the open. And I want to see how good this Guardian is," Smiling, the apprentice threw his hands up into the air, energy jumping up and down his arms. Black bolts of lightning arced from his fingers and crashed onto the dark floor. The energy exploded as it hit the floor, smoke filling the room and blocking the apprentice's vision. Then the smoke cleared. A man-sized monster stood before the apprentice. It had huge, corded muscles, jet-black skin made from the darkest onyx, and was covered from head to toe in razor sharp spikes. Those spikes had tiny, equally sharp needles poking out of the main spike. Its head was round; it had no mouth, nose, or ears to speak of. The only features it had were its two glowing red eyes and the crown of spikes sticking out of its head. A huge, three foot long horn poked straight into the air, coming out of the top of the monster's head. "Masenko, go and destroy the Sailor Scouts," the apprentice ordered, waving a hand. The monster bowed before the apprentice, turned, and flicked a finger, energy jumping from its finger to the ground, creating a swirling white portal. The creature jumped into the portal and the swirling vortex closed. "You do know that Masenko will surely be destroyed by the Scouts," the master stated. "I know," the apprentice replied, "But I couldn't exactly tell Masenko to 'go and find the Scouts, then die at their hands' now could I?" The master laughed, his bellowing roar causing the very stones that made the wall rumble and shake. Hotaru slowly and silently made her way to the library. It wasn't too far from her house, but her frail body couldn't take a simple walk to a library that was ten blocks down the street. When she got there, she was panting, trying to catch her breath. Hotaru tiredly pushed through the revolving glass doors of the library and walked in. She wandered through the aisles of books, picked a few, and sat down in a chair in front of a wooden table located in a remote part of the library's lobby. That's when she noticed a slender girl wearing a blue sweater standing in front of an aisle, browsing the selves for an interesting book to read. She recognized the black-haired girl as one of Serena's friends. She saw her with Serena and a tall brunette often. Hotaru recalled the girl's name as Amy. The super-smart girl whose only rival was Greg, a shy,but intelligent, boy who many at her school thought was Amy's boyfriend, despite the protests from both Amy and Greg. Amy also recognized the frail girl and moved over to her table, politely asking if she could sit with her. Hotaru nodded and Amy sat down in a chair opposite Hotaru. "Come to the library often?" Amy asked the pale girl. "Yes," Hotaru replied. "Me too," A flash of light erupted in the middle of the busy street in front of the library. The bright light solidified into the spike-covered Masenko. Several cars swerved out of the way, crashing into other cars and into fire hydrants and streetlights. The panicked occupants exited their cars and ran as fast as they could in the opposite direction of Masenko, who had started to rip up the pavement with his spikes. "Bring me the Sailor Scouts!" Masenko roared, his astonishingly loud voice shattering the windows of cars as well as the glass windows and the door of the library. "What the…?" Any started. Fragments of shattered glass flew inward, one rather large piece missing Amy by a hairsbreadth. Hotaru ducked as another shard of glass ripped by, imbedding itself into the wall above Hotaru's head. Amy and Hotaru, both curious about what was going on, ran to the broken window and got their answer. Masenko ripped a streetlight right out of the ground, tossing the length of steel and electrical wires into a nearby car. The car was heavily dented by the sudden increase in weight. The spiked monster charged into a car that was only a few feet away from it, and tore the vehicle into tiny bits of scrap metal. Amy couldn't stand to see the devastation and ran from the window, leaving a stunned Hotaru watching in wide-eyed horror at the carnage. Amy ran behind an aisle, where no one could see her, pulled a blue crystalline stick from her pocket, held the stick into the air, and called out, "Mercury Star Power!" Amy was bathed in a bluish light, strands of blue silken ribbons flying out of her stick, wrapping about her slender form, tightening and morphing into a body suit, gloves, and blue boots. A blue short skirt attached itself to the body suit, and a blue choker/collar, matching earrings, and gold tiara with a blue gem set in the middle completed the outfit. Sailor Mercury pulled out a blue minicomputer from her body suit. She pressed a few buttons on the computer's keypad, getting a scanned reading from the monster. Then she pressed another button- this one letting her communicate to her friends without using her communicator. "Guys," she said urgently into the minicomputer, "meet me at the library! A monster is tearing the street right outside! Someone might get hurt! Hurry!" Closing the computer and slipping it into her body suit, Sailor Mercury stepped out of the aisle, taking a stealthier exit, avoiding Hotaru and the few patrons still inside the library. She crept to a broken window, punched out the remaining glass shards, and jumped out through the window, landing in a dead run. Lita, excited at the prospect of a fight, jumped up and down, full of energy. She was headed for the arcade when she got Amy's message. She abruptly changed her destination and dove into a side alley. She pulled a green stick from her pocket, yelling, "Jupiter Star Power!" Green ribbons flashed out of her power stick, the ribbons wrapping around her tall form. In an instant, Sailor Jupiter was prepared for a fight. Raye and Mina, headed to the mall for a shopping spree, also got Amy's message, hid behind a large tree, pulled out their respective power sticks, and transformed. "Mars Star Power!" "Venus Star Power!" The two girls, wrapped in red and gold ribbons respectively, felt their transformation taking place even though they had their eyes closed for most of the duration. Sailor Mars and Sailor Venus rushed out from their hiding place behind the tree and ran for the library. Serena, who was at home sleeping, was abruptly awaken from a pleasant dream about Darien by Luna, who was holding her communicator in her mouth. Amy's voice could be heard throught the communicator, "…meet me at the library! A monster is tearing up the street right outside!" Rini was also in the room, a worried expression on her face. Serena yawned, got out of her bed, grabbed her brooch, raised the pink brooch into the air and said, "Moon Crystal Power!" Masenko was just skewered his latest car, a red Corvette Stingray. He spotted Sailor Mercury charging right at him, and he almost laughed as he saw the blue-suited girl ran at him as if she were a tank or something. Mercury stopped abruptly, however, and that was Masenko's first clue to what was going on. Sailor Mercury, spinning around, a blue ball of water and ice in her hand, yelled, "Shine Aqua Illusion!" throwing the water and ice ball as she said the words. Masenko jumped to the side, the Aqua Illusion attack hitting a car that Masenko was standing in front of, and subsequently blowing the car up into little pieces. The spiked monster did not get away from the Aqua Illusion attack, however, as it grabbed one of the spikes on its shoulder, the spike's tip frozen solid where it was grazed by the attack. "Damn," he muttered, "That kid has spunk," The Aqua Illusion attack came at him again, but this time, he was ready for it. Instead of dodging the attack, Masenko punched at it. The monster's fist went numb from the chilling cold almost instantly, but the deed had been done. The Aqua Illusion had been deflected back at Sailor Mercury in one punch. Sailor Mercury went into a split, her legs spreading wide apart and her body going straight down. The desperate, and painful, maneuver brought her body down low enough so that the Aqua Illusion attack sailed over her head and crashed into a tree, blowing the tree up after freezing it. "Not so strong without your friends, eh?" Masenko taunted, watching Mercury slowly get up from her delicate position, "You should be a gymnast with moves like that," the monster roared, causing a pained Mercury to blush. Mercury grunted away the pain in her waist and legs and activated her visor. "He's very strong," Mercury muttered, reading her visor's scans, "but not very coordinated," Masenko charged Mercury, moving quite fast, but obviously not going for finesse as he dug his spiky feet into the ground with her long stride. Mercury jumped to the side at the last possible minute, a blast of pain from her legs and waist, which hadn't fully recovered from her desperate dodge, caused her to land incorrectly- her feet weren't in the right position and she fell to the ground hard. Masenko was standing right in front of her now, his spiky fist positioned to drive a particularly large spike into her head. Mercury closed her eyes, waiting for the killing blow. It never came. Perplexed, Sailor Mercury opened her eyes and saw that Masenko had been knocked back. Her gaze shifted to a thin, long gash on the monster's chest. She followed that gash and realized that one of Tuxedo Mask's roses was imbedded into the ground. She stood up and looked around for Tuxedo Mask. Another rose sliced yet another gash on Masenko's chest, and Mercury followed the line of the throw and saw Tuxedo Mask standing the roof of the library. The other Sailor Scouts and the two cats were standing on the roof beside Tuxedo Mask as well. Sailor Mars collected a vast amount of fire around her, forming a circle of fireballs. "Mars Celestial Fire Surround!" she screamed, the fireballs turning into glowing yellow disks of flame that zipped here and there, each taking its own individual path toward the monster. Each disk burned into Masenko's chest, causing the monster to reel back and scream in agony. "How dare you devastate the peaceful lives of the innocent," Sailor Moon declared, "For that, I, Sailor Moon, will punish you!" Masenko, not impressed, leaped at the Scouts on the roof. In sheer terror at the ominous sight of the spiked monster heading their way, Sailor Jupiter gathered a ball of electricity in her hand. "Jupiter Thunder Clap Zap!" she yelled, throwing the electrical ball at the monster. The ball connected and exploded on contact, sending the monster crashing into the ground. The Scouts, cats, and black-caped companion all jumped down to the ground and rushed to Sailor Mercury. "I'm alright," Mercury assured her worried friends as they helped her up. "Really, I'm alright, just a little banged up, but no worse for wear. That monster is strong," "We figured," Tuxedo Mask said lightly, "just take a look around at the damage," Mercury managed a soft chuckle, "Yeah, well, while he may be stronger than us, he is not very agile. We can use that to our advantage." Luna, however, was too preoccupied at looking at a stunned Hotaru, who was still watching the fight from the library window. She looks familiar, the black cat thought, Where have I seen her before? At that instant, Hotaru's forehead began to glow a bright purple…the symbol of the planet of Saturn flashed on her forehead. "Sailor Saturn!" Luna screeched out loud, causing Artemis and the other's to look at Luna. "What's wrong, Luna?" asked Mars. "That girl…" Luna said, pointing with her paw at Hotaru. "Oh, her? That's Hotaru Tomoe, the new girl at school," Jupiter said, recognizing the pale girl. "That's not just a new girl at school, Jupiter," Artemis said, taking a good, hard look at Hotaru and recognizing her in a single moment. "That's the Sailor of Rebirth, Sailor Saturn. Look at her forehead," The others looked at Hotaru's forehead and saw the symbol that was glowing there. Hotaru saw them looking at her, and backed away from the window, not realizing that her forehead was glowing. "I got to give her the transformation wand!" Luna cried, running as fast as she could to the library. She jumped up onto the window sill, jumped onto Hotaru's shoulder, and, before the frightened girl could throw her off, said in her ear, "Hotaru, you are Sailor Saturn! Take this wand and say 'Saturn Planet Power', do it!" Luna backflipped off of the girl's shoulder, a flash of light trailing her. Another flash of light followed, and then a purple stick fell into Hotaru's hand. Hotaru looked at the stick, and hesitated for just a second, before raising the stick into the air and saying, "SATURN PLANET POWER!" Sailor Moon: The Three Waves of Destruction Wave One Chapter Five: Sailor Saturn, Power Up Now! Hotaru felt the surge of power course through her veins as the purple silk ribbons flew from her power stick and wrapped around her. A flood of memories of her past life as a princess of the planet Saturn during the Silver Millennium assaulted her brain. A pool of knowledge entered her brain, unleashing the true powers of the Sailor of Rebirth. When the transformation ended, Hotaru was wearing the dark purple uniform of Sailor Saturn: dark purple boots, white gloves lined in purple, white body suit, dark purple short skirt, purple choker/collar, earrings, and a tiara studded with a single purple gem. A purple bow was on the back of her waist and a larger bow was attached to the front of her body suit. The only variation in her uniform to all the other Scouts' clothes was that her body suit had feathery shoulder pads on it. "Whoa," Hotaru said dumbly, looking herself over. Luna smiled at the female warrior. "Luna," Hotaru said to the black cat, her memories of the Silver Millennium and her past life fully returned to her. "Long time no see," "We can reminisce later, Sailor Saturn. The Scouts need you." Sailor Saturn nodded, turned, and jumped through the window, running as fast as her frail body could carry her. The Guardian was standing in a nearby alley. He didn't want to get involved. He knew that something was spying on him. He could feel it. He wanted to help them, but couldn't. He couldn't compromise the Shadow Hunters' secrecy on this planet. "Where is that Guardian?" the master bellowed, frustrated. He wanted to see Guardian's fighting abilities; not watch a bunch of weakling kids fight a useless monster. "He can sense us watching him," the apprentice stated, matter-of-factly. The master gave his apprentice a look that prompted him to continue. "He's waiting for us to stop watching him," the apprentice clarified, "He can't give out the Shadow Hunters. If he steps out into the open, he will give us the perfect opportunity to study his fighting skills. Fighting skills that are trained only to Shadow Hunters. He can't compromise those battle secrets." "I understand now. You have grown in both intelligence and wisdom, apprentice," the master congratulated. Sailor Saturn reached the other Scouts, who all looked at the transformed Hotaru with stunned expressions. "Hotaru?" Sailor Moon said incredulously. "Hi, Serena!" Saturn returned, "Or should I say, Princess Serena," At that moment, all of the Scouts, cats, and masked hero remembered the frail, but brave Princess Saturn. Sailor Moon smiled at Saturn. "Yo!" Masenko roared, "I feel neglected back here! Mind fighting me already?" The monster charged, running full out, spikes leading. Tuxedo Mask threw a rose at the monster, which simply bounced off one of its spikes. The Scouts, cats, and masked hero jumped to the sides, dodging the monster's charge. Masenko skidded to a stop, turned, and rushed at Sailor Venus, who was sprawled on the ground. None of the others were close enough to stop the monster before it got to Venus. And the blonde girl was too scared to put up a defense. Seeing Venus in danger, Guardian snapped to full offensive mode. He disappeared from the alley in a flash. He reappeared right in front of Venus, adjusting his feet to meet Masenko's charge. CRASH! The two warriors' hands grasped at his opponents' hands, trying to throw the other off balance. The Guardian pushed with all his might, trying to gain the upper hand, but Masenko would not be swayed and the contest stayed as a draw. Venus looked at the Guardian with dreamy eyes, he did, after all, save her life. Then, to her horror, Masenko threw the Guardian into the air, and, as he descended back to earth, the monster cruelly kicked the warrior back up into the air, repeating the process several times before letting the now-battered warrior crash into the ground. Masenko put his foot on the Guardian's back, and pushed down, hard. The pressure nearly broke the Guardian's back, but the warrior managed to keep his back from snapping. "I can't watch this," Sailor Saturn said. She got up and walked straight for the monster, a white aura lining her body as she moved. She brought her hands in front of her, palms aimed at Masenko. "Leave him alone!" Sailor Saturn screamed, unleashing a heavy barrage of iridescent white energy at from her palms at Masenko. The monster turned to look at the frail girl, but saw, instead, a blast of white energy. Masenko was vaporized in an instant. Saturn fell to her knees, exhausted. The expulsion of such a blast of energy would have made a healthy person tired, but it made the frail Saturn downright exhausted. Her Sailor Saturn guise disappeared as she succumbed to exhaustion. The Guardian groaned and stood up. Venus got up and went to him, helping him up. "That girl in the purple suit has quite a punch," the battered warrior commented, staring at the burned spot on the road where Masenko was standing only a few moments before. The Scouts brought an exhausted Hotaru back to her house, sneaking in though the window of her room and placing her on her bed. They left a note saying their thanks for helping them in the fight. Then they left. The Guardian, to Mina's dismay, left the group to go and rest, preferring to heal his wounds on his own. "Shucks," Mina said to Serena and the others after the Guardian had left, "I wouldn't have minded to take a look at his back wounds," "And to take a look and his bare chest while you were at it," Raye added with a snicker. "His ability to take pain is quite commendable," the apprentice said with an approving nod. "He is a Shadow Hunter," the master replied, as if that explained everything. "We didn't get to see much of his fighting skills," the apprentice continued mournfully, "but now we know just how powerful Sailor Saturn really is," "Too bad the two mysterious Scouts didn't show up," the master commented. The Guardian had found an abandoned warehouse in one of the downtown districts of Tokyo, and used that as his base of operations. He hadn't revealed anything to whoever was watching him, except that he was immensely strong. He was glad that nothing had been compromised. He took of his shirt, pulled out a bottle of ointment from his pocket, poured some ointment into his hands, and started rubbing the liquid onto his back, wincing at the burning sensation as the ointment started its healing process on his back wounds. Pocketing the bottle, the Guardian tossed his shirt on top of a wooden crate and flexed his pectoral muscles, grimacing was he tested his wounded chest. He hadn't realized just how badly injured he was. Oh well, he thought, the ointment only heals open wounds, not bruises. Besides, one can expect to get hurt as a Shadow Hunter. End of Wave One
