I have noticed in very little time that there are two types of newbies. Here I will go over what they seem (to me) to be, and my opinion of them. Also, the newbies I am referring to are those that start watching the NA dub, and find the original through other means.

Newbie Number One is generally a nice person. She writes helpful posts on message boards. She has respectable websites aimed to please and inform. Even when she doesn’t agree with something that she has read/seen/heard she will either bite her tongue or gently make her point clear. I happen to love this kind of newbie. I was once this newbie. These newbies wear the fortunate trait of kindness, courtesy, and tact.

Newbie Number Two is a whole other nasty business. This newbie is crass, disrespectful, and rude. She spends her time doing many vile deeds. She writes disparaging or mean posts on the aforementioned message boards. Her websites are strictly mockeries or cruel parodies of other, more reputable ones. Either that or her websites lie about SM, demand her beliefs are the right ones, and so on. When Newbie Number Two doesn’t agree with you on a point (think Uranus and Neptune’s relationship here) she will flame you, rant, and be an overall pissant. I think these newbies are one of the major problems in the online SM community. I don’t think any less of you for having your own opinions, beliefs, and whatnot (in fact, I will admire you more so for your courage), but I don’t need to be flamed, harassed, or wheedled to see things your way. All that’s going to do is get me mad. These newbies wear the trait of nastiness, immaturity, and ignorance.

Now, this was really just to get this off my head. I don’t flame. I have flamed twice in my whole life and it made me feel so bad I stopped doing it. So if you are Newbie Number Two, you needn’t worry I’ll come at you with a virtual two-by-four. But please, take into consideration what I’ve said. Nobody in their right mind would want to be Newbie Number Two.
