Who is Chibi Chibi?

A: In the anime, Chibi Chibi is Sailor Galaxia's starseed. A starseed is a diamond-shaped physical representation of a person's soul. All people have starseeds, but the starseeds that sailor soldiers have a particular shine. Sailor Galaxia sealed the evil entity known as Chaos inside her body and she sent out her starseed. That starseed came to earth and changed itself into a little girl. Usagi and her friends refer to the little girl as Chibi Chibi. Chibi Chibi is not related to Usagi and her family, but Sailor Moon does refer to Chibi Chibi's sailor soldier form as "Chibi Chibi Moon." Sailor Galaxia's starseed also has an adult representation who is called the Light of Hope. The Light of Hope looks like a sailor soldier named Sailor Cosmos in the manga, but Sailor Cosmos does not appear in the anime. In the fifth Original Picture Collection, Naoko Takeuchi (the creator of the manga) wrote that she wishes that Sailor Cosmos appears in the anime. That shows that the Light of Hope is not Sailor Cosmos.

In the manga, Chibi Chibi is really Sailor Cosmos, a sailor soldier from the distant future. In her own time, Sailor Cosmos fights an evil entity named Sailor Chaos. Sailor Cosmos is not successful, so she eventually runs away. She travels back to Usagi's time to see if she can make things right. Sailor Ceres asks Sailor Cosmos if she is the ultimate form of the Sailor Moon of the future, but Sailor Cosmos tells Sailor Ceres and the other members of the Sailor Quartetto that she is only a coward. Is Sailor Cosmos really related to Sailor Moon?

It is important to understand the difference between identity and names. A person can have many different names throughout his or her lifetime, but that does not change the fact that the person is the same person.

In act 52 of the manga, Sailor Cosmos tells her story. Many fans have read Alex Glover's translation of the act, but some of them apparently did not own the manga book. The manga itself shows images that help the reader understand what the characters are discussing. Part of the reason that people are confused about Sailor Cosmos is that many of them do not have the book to help them understand the context of the character's speech.

In the original Japanese version, Sailor Cosmos refers to her Sailor Cosmos form and her Chibi Chibi form in the first person. When she refers specifically to Usagi, she calls Usagi the "me of here." Unfortunately, that quotation has been taken out of context too many times. At least one fan claims that Sailor Cosmos is referring to Chibi Chibi when she made her "me of here" comment. However, Sailor Cosmos is talking in the first person in the panel that shows Chibi Chibi. In the next panel, we see a picture of Usagi and Chibi Chibi. Obviously, it is Usagi who is being called the "me of here."

It is true that Sailor Cosmos calls Eternal Sailor Moon the real Sailor Cosmos, but that does not mean that the woman is not a future version of Sailor Moon. It was mentioned previously that there is a difference between identity and names. Sailor Cosmos also refers to Usagi and Eternal Sailor Moon in the third person, but that is not enough to say that Sailor Cosmos is not Sailor Moon from the future. Neo Queen Serenity, who is a future version of Usagi (Sailor Moon) refers to Sailor Moon in the third person at least once.

Some fans have argued that Sailor Cosmos cannot be a future version of Sailor Moon. Personally, I do not find their arguments convincing. Here are some of their arguments and my responses:

So, in the manga, Sailor Cosmos is a future version of Sailor Moon.
