Poor Mistranslated VesVes!

Ves Ves After a recent posting on the message board I came to feel sorry for VesVes. She is a girl who has had the run around with her name. People, the people who translate anyway, just seem to have too many alternatives for this amazon girl. It honestly upsets me that so many people can get it wrong and totally confuse others who don't know yet.

Let's see, how many alternative versions of her name do we have? Ves Ves, Vesu Vesu, Besu Besu, and, of course, Beth Beth are the main four versions that get shuffled around. Then there is the choice of adding in the dash to the name to add to the confusion: Ves-Ves, Vesu-Vesu, Besu-Besu, and Beth-Beth.

Honestly, if people would do a little research they would find that in the manga this girl becomes a sailor soldier by the name of Sailor Vesta (sera besuta). This would explain the name VesVes. The same goes for the other Amazones as well (PallaPalla - Pallas, JunJun - Juno, CereCere - Ceres). And you will find that the sailor soldiers of the Solar system are named after planets (and asteriods) who also seem to play a part in mythology.

Besu Besu also can be acceptable since it is the romanization of the name from Japanese to English. Since no "V" exists in the Japanese alphabet the "B" is put there in it's place which also makes Vesu Vesu correct. The "U" in Vesu is due to the fact that there is no single S consanant in the Japanese language either so words are spelled as closely as possible to the original word.

Beth Beth is absolutely WRONG. I'm pretty sure this originated with VKLL's fansubs (it's the first place I saw it appear that way). Now, while his tapes are excellent in quality and inexpensive some of the translations have been found to be a little off. Most of my Sailormoon fansubs are from him so I am not bashing him. Just, again, if people did a little more research they would find the true translations right there under them. Less people would be confused.

This goes for the dubbed version of the show as well. They decided to keep VesVes's name in the romanji form of the name rather than the way it was intended to be pronounced and written. So all of you dub fans out there remember, VesuVesu/Besu Besu is the dubbed version name & romanji form of the name, while VesVes is the original, correct form of the name ^_^
